Done!

I have named my version "Ariadne," since I needed help getting out of the Labyrinth  - although to be mythologically correct it should be red, not purple ;)

backtrack

I got a very nice e-mail response from Danna, the technical editor at Stitch Diva.

The correct stitch counts for the sleeves are:

Rnd 2: Increase 14(12, 14, 12, 12, 14, 14) sts - 66(70, 76, 82, 88, 100, 100) sts.
Rnd 4: Increase 11(7, 12, 6, 11, 10, 10) sts - 77(77, 88, 88, 99, 110, 110) sts.
Rnd 31: Dec 14(14, 16, 16, 18, 20, 20 sts) - 63(63, 72, 72, 81, 90, 90) sts
Rnd 33: Decrease 13(9, 12, 8, 11, 10, 6) sts - 50(54, 60, 64, 70, 80, 84) sts.

That was really nice of her to reply so quickly! I loves me some Stitch Diva :)

wrong turn

Found an error in the short sleeve instructions for the large size of Labyrinth while I was knitting last night.

The instructions read:

Rnd 2: ... inc 14 (12, 14, 16, 12, 14, 14) sts evenly around - 66 (70, 76, 86, 88, 100, 100) sts
Rnd 4: ... inc 11 (7, 12, 13, 11, 10, 10) sts evenly around - 77 (77, 88, 88, 99, 110, 110) sts - this gives you 99 sts
Rnd 31: ... *k2tog, k7, ssk* around - 63 (63, 72, 72, 81, 90, 90) sts - this gives you 81 sts
Rnd 33: ... dec 13 (9, 12, 8, 11, 10, 6) sts evenly around... 50 (54, 60, 64, 70, 80, 84) - this would give you 73 sts - I decreased 11 sts to get 70 (ribbing's a little looser than it could be, but decreasing 17 sts seemed pretty drastic)

I e-mailed Stitch Diva to let them know about it.

roadblock

Blargh.
Not only do I have the Cold of Doom, I have Really Unhappy Stomach.
As a result, no knitting happened yesterday.

Oh well, I needed to look up how to do M1L and M1R anyway.

through the labyrinth

Restarted Labyrinth on Friday night after discovering my stitch count was totally off after a few increase rounds. (That's what I get for knitting when I'm sleepy.) Wrote out all the stitch counts and had another go.

Got a nasty cold on Saturday, which slowed down the knitting a bit since I had to do lame stuff like sleep and lie around being miserable, but as of Monday I'm on my fourth ball of yarn and ready to start the hip increases.

I tried it on yesterday after finishing the waist decreases (stayed home from work and slept most of the day) and it fits quite nicely - I think I might do 12 rows of working even at the waist (as the smaller sizes have) instead of 6 before starting the increases.

I must hurry though, Danielle already started her increases! :)

Back at work today, still sick, trying not to infect the coworkers with the Cold of Doom. I have a box of tissues and a bottle of Purell. By the end of the day I will have created a Purell-resistant supervirus that will eat the world!

The Cold of Doom seems to be making my stomach unhappy. Instead of feeling hungry, I now get Gnawing Discomfort. Yay!

April showers (of knitting)

Well, still have a dead computer, so I have been very bad about posting!

I mostly just hang out on Ravelry, it makes one's knitting life so easy ;)

Going to try to do something about that here shortly though, I need a computer at home!

Danielle and I are having a knitting race - we want to finish Labyrinth (the short sleeved version) in time for Maryland Sheep and Wool!

We swatched on Wednesday and cast on Thursday... it's off to the races!

I'm a little worried about gauge though - I knit my swatch in the round, since most of Labyrinth is done in the round, but the beginning is done flat and I seem to be knitting a little tighter. I might wash and block what I've got knit up so far just to make sure it comes out right.

I'm doing it in Debbie Bliss Prima, which is an 80% bamboo 20% merino blend - it's nice and drapey once it's washed and it knits nicely. It got really odd and stiff when it was wet though!

I'm also working on Parthenope, thanks to Danielle's lovely knitting retreat at O St. Mansion, which was very full of awesome.

And of course all the other projects I've got going as well...

Whoa! FO!

I finished my Thuja socks today!

(I started them in SEPTEMBER, but we won't talk about that.)

I used Grumperina's very cool stretchy sock bind-off, which worked a treat.

More pictures soon, my computer at home died so I have no convenient way to upload right now.

Hat Attack vs. Big Irish Head!

So if the hat can't actually fit on my head, does that mean it can't kill me?

Vote Wool!

(shamelessly stolen from Lime & Violet)

Whatever your affiliation, get out there and vote!  It does count. And today, thanks to Franklin Habit, I’ve discovered the party of my dreams - The Fibertarian Party!  Ya gotta go read about it…  Dolores is running for president and she’s got a pretty strong platform!

  1. Elizabeth Zimmermann’s birthday will be declared a national holiday.
  2. All fiber-related purchases will be fully tax-deductible.
  3. Knitting will become a mandatory subject in American public schools.
  4. Government subsidies for the establishment of independent yarn shops in high-need areas.
